Publishing

CP5 is an attempt at the next generation of web publishing. An unprecedented amount of development work was packed into the first half of 2008 to release the software in the Fall semester. With help from our partners at Polopoly, who developed the content management software [CMS], the feature set unique to college newsrooms has been combined with one of the most powerful and advanced web CMS’s available on the market.

Previous versions of the College Publisher software had been built ColdFusion code base and were developed over the course of years. And while ColdFusion was cutting edge for its time, it lost its pliability over time as the web evolved, news consumption demands increased and the network of newspaper sites became greater.

CP5 is a highly customized installation of the java-based Polopoly platform that will enable College Media Network realize all the potential benefits of being a part of network of news sites. This software is leaps and bounds ahead of previous versions of the College Publisher. From its graphical interface for dragging and dropping stories in the story layout to its 24 hour news publishing cycle (no more issues) to its ability to ingest XML for bulk uploads – CP5 is ahead of the curve and enables college newsrooms to present the news in a timely and dynamic fashion.

Please read through our Transition Document for information on what the steps are required to switch publishing platforms.
