Help and Support

Support FAQ

What kind of support is available on the College Publisher software?

College Media Network provides 24 hour support on your site. We provide free training on the site during business hours (9-5 EST) on all facets of our software. For technical emergencies that bring the site down, we have an ‘After Hours Line’ that is available through prompts at our main phone line, 866.733.9231. Calling after hours is exclusively reserved for technical emergencies.

What happens to my paper’s domain?

Typically, we prefer to manage the domain and DNS records for our partners for the entire term of the contract. We manage all our newspaper partners’ domains using state-of-the-art Super DNS servers that can accommodate any special records for email or sub-domains you elect to deploy. We encourage your publication to transfer the domain to us prior to launch of your College Publisher powered site for a smooth transition. We can walk you through this process; feel free to contact us if you have questions.

If your publication does not have a domain chosen for your site, you must select one (be sure it is available), let us know what it is, and we will purchase and manage that domain upon the contract execution.

What is the “Email Edition”?

Your staff has the option to blast out a newsletter to registered users who subscribe to it any time new content is uploaded to the site. Whether it is the daily/weekly/monthly issue or breaking news, there is a simple 2 step module in College Publisher to enable better contact with your readers.

Does College Publisher come with email?

College Publisher is strictly a Content Management System for your publication. While we do manage your domain, we do not host email for your staff. It is possible to create email addresses based on your newspaper’s domain that forward to a preferred email account of your choice (for instance, editor@newspaper.com forwards to johnbwriter@gmail.com). To take advantage of this functionality, please contact us.

How does Advertising work?

In College Publisher 5.0, advertising is run through an enterprise ad management system powered by Atlas Ad Suite, a subsidiary of Microsoft. This technology allows College Media Network to place national advertising (2 ad positions) across the entire network of newspaper sites as well as enabling individual newspapers to place local ads (3 ad positions) on their site.

A new revenue sharing program is planned to be deployed through College Publisher 5.0 where any remnant (unsold) ad inventory on your site is back filled with campaigns sold by College Media Network and other National Rep Agencies. The revenue from these campaigns is split between your publication and CMN (the lion’s share going to you).

Does College Media Network censor our content?

No. However, being the hosting company of your content, we are the sometimes contacted for reasons of copyright infringement or complaints of objectionable or inaccurate content by your readers. In these cases, if there is merit in the complaint, we will contact your publication and inform the staff of the infraction or complaint and ask your staff to take down the content in question.

It is always important to update your publication’s contact information with College Media Network – please use our contact form to do so.
