Shooting at UNC Charlotte Leaves 2 Dead, 4 Injured

A shooting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Tuesday evening has left two dead and four injured. Local police have confirmed the identity of a suspect that has been taken into custody, but not the victims as their families have not yet been notified. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said, “One thing I do know is that a student shouldn’t have to fear for his or her life when they’re on our campuses. Parents should not have to worry about their students when they send them off to school. I know this violence has to stop.”

Attorney General William Barr to Appear Before Senate Judiciary Committee

Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will be questioning Attorney General Barr on the release of the Mueller Report. The release of the report has become a highly partisan issue with Republicans wanting to move and Democrats insisting that the unredacted report be released. This is Barr’s chance to explain himself and the Dem’s chance to show that Barr misrepresented the findings of the report.

Spanish Socialists Win National Elections While Far-Right Party Surges

The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) led by its leader, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, won in national elections on Sunday, April 28, but needs to form a coalition with the leftist Podemos and regionalist parties. The center-left social democratic party took 29% of the popular vote, winning 123 seats in the 350-seat lower Congress of Deputies. While it is expected that PSOE will form a governing majority coalition with Podemos, which won 42 seats, it will need to rely on other regionalist political parties from Spanish regions such as Basque Country and Catalonia. Trump Delays Steel and Aluminum Tariffs for US Allies

President Trump has again delayed imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union. The Washington Post reports, “Trump has put off a decision on steel and aluminum tariffs aimed at Mexico and Canada because he is trying to gain more access for U.S. businesses to their markets as part of a North American Free Trade Agreement renegotiation.” Trump’s strategy with the European Union is less clear as he has praised some countries like France but criticized others like Germany, which he says needs to allow U.S. companies more access to customers.
