Grieving a Death Loss? Students Should Get this App

Today in the U.S., research suggests one in three college students experience the death of a family member or close friend in any 12-month period. With nearly 20 million students enrolled in American universities in 2019 and the number of traumatic incidences increasing in communities and on college campuses, that means that at any given time, more than 6.6 million college students are likely grieving a death.

According to a recent press release, that’s where a new app, now available for young adults ages 18-25, comes in. For students grieving a death, and for the professionals who serve them, the Actively Moving Forward (AMF) app, a HealGrief program, is intended to help connect young adults in the grieving process. The app is a tool to find support, deepen connections, engage with groups, find events, webinars, and a host of other valuable and helpful resources. Users must first register to verify and protect the safety of all users.

The AMF app is available in the App Store on iOS and the Play Store on Android devices. Once registered, new community members will receive download and sign up instructions.

For young adults aged 18-25, grief support is imperative. The ability to process grief and adapt to a new normal after a death loss leads to improved grades, higher graduation rates and the ability to maintain strong personal and professional bonds with family, friends and the community. That’s why AMF was created; because there was a lack of resources and support available to the tragically large number of young adults that are grieving a death loss.
