American University in Washington D.C. is currently on lockdown after a report of an armed man being seen near campus.

The first alert was sent out at 1:26 p.m. by American University Police saying that there was a report of an armed man near campus and that people need to seek shelter.

The University went into lockdown after the alert. Students and faculty are to stay in the building they currently reside, lock the doors, and stay away from the windows. If people were outside on the campus grounds when they received the alert, they were told to get off campus as quickly as possible and go to a safe location.

American University Police, Maryland Police, and Secret Service are on the scene conducting a building by building search of the campus.
