According to a recent press release, Phi Kappa Phi is now accepting applications to its dissertation fellowship program. Students in all academic disciplines know of Phi Kappa Phi – the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society. Their Dissertation Fellowship Program awards $10,000 to its fellows.
This program is designed to support doctoral candidates who are writing their dissertations (an act none of us want to do twice). In order to be eligible for the program, applicants must be active members of the society and writing their dissertation. All pre-dissertation requirements must be met by the November 30th deadline — including the approval of their dissertation proposal.
When asked about her experience in the Dissertation Fellowship program, Elizabeth Bell states, “I am honored to be one of the 2019 Dissertation Fellowship recipients. The Phi Kappa Phi honor society does a great service to our country by empowering and encouraging graduate students committed to the betterment of our society. Graduate school can be challenging financially and mentally for many students, and it’s programs like this that make it possible for us to succeed in our mission of seeking truth and speaking truth to power.”
In order to win a fellowship from Phi Kappa Phi, the committee will determine how the fellowship will contribute to the completion of the dissertation, the significance of original research, and the endorsement given by the dissertation chair.
The dissertation fellowship is one of many programs Phi Kappa Phi offers. Nearly $1 million is donated each year to outstanding members through graduate fellowships, study abroad grants, funding for post-baccalaureate development, and grants for literacy initiatives.
The deadline to submit an application for a dissertation fellowship is Nov. 30, 2019, and recipients will be notified by March 1, 2020. For full eligibility requirements and application instructions, go to www.phikappaphi.org/dissertation.
