The summer fling: the perfect storm of being in the right place at the right time, combined with downtime and enjoyable weather.

We’ve all had them – or at least imagined them. Whether it was due to a bad break-up or a mutual understanding to part ways before the semester starts, all summer flings must unfortunately come to an end. Your significant other may no longer be around, but that’s not always a bad thing — music will always be there for you.

A mixture of alternative, hip-hop, pop and R&B, this edition of CMN Vibes is not for the faint of heart when it comes to lyrical content. From Ariana Grande and Big Sean’s “Best Mistake” to Beyoncé’s “Me, Myself & I” to Mint Condition’s “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes),” three decades worth of chicken soup for the soul are present to help you re-focus your energy on the upcoming school year.

Get your loud speakers ready, let the shower run extra hot and belt this playlist out whenever no one’s around. We won’t judge.

Nia is a broadcast journalism major and psychology minor at Virginia Commonwealth University. After being a 2016 VCU Homecoming Court winner, she began expanding her network around campus by working at the gym, becoming an admissions tour guide and picking up stories for "The Commonwealth Times” independent, student-run newspaper. Nia enjoys news writing, which is what inspired her to expand her interests into print journalism, but in her free time you can find her working on a discography that will never see the light of day. One day, you'll see Nia anchoring her own comedy news show (that's actually funny) or doing multilingual reporting for major news networks.
