Friday Scoop: Bar the Vote
Plus, music video of the year?
Senate Committee to Vote Today on Kavanaugh
After a nine hour hearing on the Senate floor yesterday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has called for a vote on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court from the Senate Judiciary Committee. If the vote pushes through today, there could be a confirmation from Senate as early as next week, putting Kavanaugh on the SCOTUS bench.
Millions watched as Christine Blasey Ford told senators that she is “100 percent” certain it was Kavanaugh who sexually assaulted her at a high school party. Following an emotionally charged defense from the SCOTUS nominee, President Trump reiterated his support for Kavanaugh.
As Republican and Democratic senators sit firmly opposed to one another on whether Kavanaugh should be confirmed as a Supreme Court justice, the American Bar Association unanimously voted that the decision should not be left in the hands of the Senate Judiciary Committee; rather, the confirmation should be postponed until the FBI can conduct a full investigation of the reported assault.
The vote is scheduled for 9:30 AM, EST.
Avril Levigne Releases Music Video on Her 34th Birthday
It’s been five years since we last heard from or seen beloved pop-punk star Avril Levigne, who turned 34 yesterday. That was, until the Canadian artist released a music video for her newest single, “Head Above Water.”
Levigne told fans on Twitter: “It makes my heart so unbelievably full to premiere the #HeadAboveWater music video for you all today, on my birthday. From the very first day I started writing this song, I have been inspired and gathering visuals and imagining what the music video could look like.” She also thanked everyone who collaborated with her to produce the video.

This end-of-the-week Morning Scoop was made possible by Alessandra Guarneri, Erin Whitten, and the CMN Staff. What’s more depressing than watching a judge cry on the Senate floor? Watching it from a freezing hospital cafeteria in Newark, New Jersey. Then again, anything in Newark is depressing.
