North Carolina Lawyer Wins Miss USA Contest

This year’s Miss USA is Cheslie Krist, a 27-year-old lawyer from North Carolina who does pro bono work for prison inmates. Krist, an African American woman and an accomplished lawyer, is just one of the many diverse candidates who appeared in this year’s pageant, showing that Miss USA is not just about the swimsuit competition anymore.

Extremist Leaders Banned from Facebook

In an effort to combat hate speech on the platform, Facebook has banned several extremist leaders such as Alex Jones of Infowars, Louis Farrakhan leader of the Nation of Islam, and Milo Yiannopoulos. The social network has previously invoked temporary bans on certain members of this list, but the bans announced yesterday are permanent as a part of the platform’s initiative to remove violent speech from the site.
