Hot 100 Hometown Heat Map: Which State Makes the Most Hits?
Find where your favorite music comes from.
Every artist got their start somewhere and in this piece we are looking at where our most popular artists got theirs. I took every artist on the Billboard Hot 100 from the week of July 13th, 2019 and mapped out their hometowns on a heat map to find which city turns out the music we like best.
The recorded hometowns are from each artist’s birthplace. For bands and groups, I selected the city where they formed. Artists that provided features on Hot 100 tracks are also recorded below.
The United States was the winner internationally, with 82 artists hailing from the country. Georgia was the top hit producing state, with 14 artists calling the Peach State home.
Looking internationally, Puerto Rico and Canada both had seven artists in the charts with the United Kingdom close behind with six. Canadian Shawn Mendes and Englishman Ed Sheeran both had a song in the top ten.
