Stanford Says No to College Republicans Logo Because American Flag
Red, white, and blue are cool, but not when it looks like the flag?
Stanford has denied the school’s College Republicans’ request for a new logo, apparently because it shows the American flag.
“We find the idea that flags are off limits ridiculous,” the Stanford College Republicans told Fox News, “and especially the American flag shouldn’t be off limits.”
The College Fix first reported that the Stanford trademark office would not approve the design because of the flag image, but would OK the use of the colors red, white, and blue.
“Stanford does not approve the use of the American (or other flag on product also featuring our trademarks (including the Stanford name) [sic],” according to an email The Fix obtained.
“The [new] logo is emblematic of our club,”Stanford College Republicans financial officer, John Rice-Cameron, told the Fix. “It shows we are willing to boldly promote conservatism.”
