The big story…

The NRCC Was Reportedly Hacked Before the 2018 Midterm Elections

Yesterday, POLITICO reported that the emails of four senior aids in the National Republican Congressional Committee were hacked and surveilled prior to the 2018 midterm elections. Although party officials could not comment on the ongoing internal or FBI investigation, they privately believe that the attack may have been orchestrated by a foreign agent. None of the emails stolen have been made public, allowing the NRCC to keep the news of the hack secret, even from GOP party members including House Speaker Paul Ryan, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

Epstein Settles One Lawsuit, Heads to Federal Court for Another

Millionaire financier Jeffrey Epstein is again facing allegations of sexual assault of dozens of underage girls in Florida. However, Epstein reached a last-minute settlement yesterday in a case brought against him that would’ve allowed several of his accusers to take the stand. Epstein also apologized for wrongly countersuing Bradley Edwards, the lawyer representing many of Epstein’s accusers, in an effort to damage the lawyer’s reputation. However, Edwards will continue pursuing a federal case against Epstein on behalf of other accusers. Epstein, who was at one time a colleague of several notable people, including Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, pleaded guilty of soliciting prostitution from a minor in 2007 and then went on to serve a mere 13 months in local jail.
